On April 16th, our JRAAS group, along with Passos no Escuro, presented the second installment of our cinema cycle “Time Capsule: Futures Gone By” (in partnership with Associação Luso-Britânica do Porto) with the iconic science-fiction cult classic Soylent Green (1973), directed by Richard Fleischer.

The session was introduced by Raquel Souza, who delved into how the film predicted how key issues such as global warming, overpopulation, depleting food resources, objectification of women, and class disparity would evolve until 2022, the year in which the film’s narrative takes place.

We thank Passos no Escuro for this collaboration, as we were very pleased to host this session in such a notable site as Cinema Passos Manuel. We are grateful to have hosted such a full room of interested people.

The third and last segment of our cycle will be 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), directed by Stanley Kubrick at Planetário do Porto, on April 29th at 17:00h with an introduction by Teresa Pereira, PhD. We hope to see you there!
