On October 29, the Regueifa and Biscoito Workshop in Valongo hosted the presentation of the research project titled “Augmented Reality, Past — Present—Future: A Digital Humanities Project in Valongo.” Roberta Rodrigues shared the discoveries and innovations developed throughout her dissertation project as part of the Master's program in Multimedia at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto.
Invited by the Valongo City Council, the project stands out for its participatory nature, actively involving Valongo Secondary School, the University of Porto, the Digital Lab of Cetaps (Centre for English, Translation and Anglo-Portuguese Studies), and the local community. Through an interdisciplinary methodological approach that combines Citizen Humanities and Digital Humanities, the study investigates the cultural values and meanings that spread throughout the local culture, promoting a rich exchange of knowledge between academics and citizens.
During the project's development, characters, and locations with potentially utopian profiles were mapped, resulting in a narrative that reinterprets local memories from an innovative perspective. This work not only facilitates intergenerational dialogue, but also culminates in the creation of a physical-digital circuit prototype that uses augmented reality to connect the past, present, and future.
