The final film in the JRAAS Cinema Cycle 'Thalassologia: The Blue Humanities in Film' will be Peter Weir's "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World" (2003), which chronicles a British ship's hunt for a formidable French war vessel around the coast of South America during the Napoleonic Wars. With a foreword by Professor Inês Amorim (FLUP), we will explore the film's representation of the ocean as a vessel both for scientific endeavors and large-scale human conflicts.
The screening will take place at the Instituto Pernambuco - Porto, Wednesday November 11th, at 2pm.
