On March 11, 2025, researchers Teresa Pereira and Jéssica Bispo presented their progress on the project Bridges between Fictional Narratives and Science in the 21st Century (BFS21) at the event Ficcionalizações da Ciência no Mundo Anglófono VII, held at Universidade Católica Portuguesa and organized by CETAPS’s Research Strand Culture, Science and the Media, in cooperation with CEEC.

Their presentation focused on the development of the project’s database, which aims to list all fictional narratives published since 2000 that establish a connection between literature and science in the anglophone world. In addition to introducing the project, they analyzed the database’s results regarding the concept of religion, exploring how the database enables researchers to examine the relationship between fictional narratives that engage with scientific thought and evolving notions of religiosity, particularly in contemporary dystopian literature.

The researchers will continue considering this topic in future ventures, bringing together literary and cultural studies and the evolving field of the digital humanities.
