During the month of May, Casa Comum will host the cinema cycle “Two Tickets to Gangland, Please”, in partnership with FLUP, Associação Luso-Britânica do Porto, and CETAPS. On May 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th, at 18h30, each film will be presented by a current (or past) member of the institutions involved in the cycle.
Yiorgos Podaropoulos
Yiorgos Podaropoulos is a Doctoral Research Fellow in Literary Studies at the University of Oslo, currently on a visiting fellowship at the University of Lisbon. He visited CETAPS and spent two days (13 and 14 of April) with us, sharing his exciting PhD research and interests and exploring our projects. After the visit, we asked him to write a short text on his visit. He kindly obliged and we are happy to share it here.

On April 16th, our JRAAS group, along with Passos no Escuro, presented the second installment of our cinema cycle “Time Capsule: Futures Gone By” (in partnership with Associação Luso-Britânica do Porto) with the iconic science-fiction cult classic Soylent Green (1973), directed by Richard Fleischer.
Digital Lab
On April 22nd, I will be presenting and discussing the Digital Lab in an online session with colleagues from LUDHI, a Digital Humanities Lab at Mackenzie University (Brazil)

On March 25th, our JRAAS group kicked off its first cinema cycle of 2026 “Time Capsule: Futures Gone By” (with the support of Associação Luso-Britânica do Porto) with the film V for Vendetta (2005), directed by James McTeigue. In order to start off the session, Professor Joana Caetano, PhD kindly provided an engrossing introduction to the film.
